BFC has just finished a scientific experiment showing a robust association between High School Physics grade and number of times one has ridden a fixed gear bike. The data suggest that a weak understanding of momentum and properties of moving bodies more generally as measured by High School physics grade is positively associated with number of times one has ridden a fixed gear bike. At the extremes, people who own fixed gear bikes (> 200 rides) had terrible physics grades, and only people who had never ridden fixed gear bikes had perfect physics grades. Here are the data shown with a Lowess smoothing curve.

Is this fixed bike riding up to and through HS (implying that bike riding decreases your physics ability) or afterwards (understanding of physics decreases your desire to ride a fixed-gear bike)?

Amazing, Steve!

The cross-sectional nature of these data limit our ability to attribute a casual direction to the fixed gear bike-bad physic grade robust association. What we can say is that the association is indeed robust, and even busty. Moreover, we call for further longitudinal studies to explore the association within a causal framework.

When I saw this in my RSS feed I thought it was gonna be 'number of press mentions of fixed gear bikes over time' but this is better.

how has only one kid in that high school not have riddent a fixed gear. fixed gear bikes are the new roller blades!

Because he's never been outside. Just look at his grade.
