As a self-employed person trying to keep my head above water “in this economy”, I’m continually impressed with and inspired by people who have so much more than I have on the line who have decided, “Fuck it. I’m going to start my own thing”. I became self employed last year almost by accident, and to be honest, it was mostly unrelated to the down-turning economy. But many others (and more and more) who have been laid off or have seen their industries squeezed by the hard times are striking out on their own to move that back-burner idea they’ve had for years to the front burner.
Cardsofchange is a website devoted to these people. As the About Us of their website says, it’s “a place where the glass is always half-full. A destination where all the bad news of the day takes a back seat to stories of individual success.”
The mission of CardsOfChange is to collect business cards and stories from people who have recently felt the effects of the economy and connect those people with new opportunities. The ulterior mission of the site is to cull the best and most uplifting stories into a book, which is being put together right now.
