John Hartford & Glenn Campbell on the porch
Gentle on My Mind was written by John Hartford and won two 1968 Grammy Awards. Hartford himself won the award for Best Folk Performance. The other award, Best Country & Western Solo Vocal Performance, Male, went to Glen Campbell for his version of Hartford’s song. Glen Campbell’s version has received over 5 million plays on the radio.

Dave Kennedy was obviously really psyched to show the world how multi-track recording worked. What’s absolutely fascinating is that–as the story goes–he really did record “All By Myself” all by (him)self.
