In 2006, I had the privilege of seeing Alejandro Escovedo play with a string quartet at Carnegie Hall. This podcast from 2009 recounts the evening, when I recorded the show with a new Edirol hard-disk recorder I’d purchased a few days earlier. After the truly memorable performance came another truly memorable experience. A date and I walked up to the majestic bar of the Pierre Hotel, just off the park. It seemed like the coziest, most welcoming place in New York City. Regular cabaret singer Kathleen Maddox was playing a baby grand and singing Christmas carols in her perfectly loungey style and some folks who seemed like regulars were lapping it up with great cheer. Absolutely holiday time in New York. Merry Christmas from EP.
