Hocus Pocus by Focus, live 1973

Posted on July 2, 2009 by Earshot Presents

Focus was born in Holland in 1969, headed by keyboardist/flautist/yodeler/mad man Thijs van Leer. Soon after, virtuoso shredder Jan Akkerman joined the band as lead guitarist. This song, “Hocus Pocus” from their 1971 album Moving Waves, earned them their place in the pantheon of prog-rock. “Hocus Pocus” was also featured on a live release from 1973 called At the Rainbow. The blistering live version from the Rainbow is pretty similar to this live video and can be purchased at the iTunes music store here.
